The Baking Experience by Saurabhya Sanket
Initially, I noticed the baking activity earlier today when I began my day. I saw a group of students working with a teacher who was helping them bake cookies. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to join them at that moment because I was busy with one of my classes.
Later, during another class, a few other students and I were asked to go to the green room, where the baking session was still in progress with the same teacher. Once we arrived, we were asked to line up so we could each take turns baking our own cookie.
Before we started baking, we were given materials to make a box to pack our cookie in. We also received a bowl containing all the ingredients needed. We began by crushing biscuits and mixing them with chocolate, sugar, and milk—some of the primary ingredients for the cookie. After mixing everything together, I flattened the mixture to form a smooth, even cookie.
In the end, I broke my cookie into five pieces to take home since I wasn’t in the mood to eat it right away. Honestly, this was a great experience for me. I learned the basics of baking, which isn’t really my area of expertise, but it might help me prepare simple things in the future.
I was especially impressed by how eager the other students were to learn. Experiences like this help develop important independent living skills, such as cooking, which will certainly benefit them in the long run.
